Investigating Scale

DESIGN PROJECT

INVESTIGATING SCALE - SW

After selecting one of my paper objects, I thought it would be suitable to turn it into a water feature, due to the nature of it having punctured holes on the flat surfaces around the cone. Fortunately, I was able to just import the photo and place it over the bucket that was in the original photo. From then I lowered the opacity of the paper water park feature and traced around the water behind, making it appear that the water is cascading down. I think it was a successful attempt and showcases the vast possibilities of what can be done with a simple piece of paper. When curating my final portfolio for this module, I may include a very small object to further demonstrate scale.

Initially I had struggled to place the object in this photo. I tried utilising the staggered effect of the layered paper to recreate steps; however, they were too large to be functional steps and thought it would look more impressive if it was the focal point of a scene, rather than a staircase. Overall, the object replicated the form of the monument at the bottom left of the photo and with some minor hue adjustments, the sunlight seems to cast its rays over the object. I used a picture from Tibet and this was useful as it is somewhere I am unfamiliar with so was interesting to implement something with little context or cultural knowledge.

For the final picture, I used a sunset photo on a pier because a beach scene is something I am familiar with and wanted to create something that didn't look loud and overcrowded. A simple unusual statue/ tent doesn't take away from the view but instead adds to it. During my lecture the picture was described as featuring movement, perhaps wind and I think this fits the mood I tried to create.
