 Carbon Emissions

WWF FOOPRINT CALCULATOR - This Year

By Sophie Wiseman

Using the WWF Footprint Calculator I'm now able to see how much my daily routine affects the atmosphere. Currently I'm living in a student flat and so I think my result reflects that. As I'm sharing a lot of my appliances, my carbon emissions at home could be less because of this. Further more I try to keep my food waste to a minimum and only walk/use public transport when commuting to university.

If I were to conduct the same test at my family home, my results may show a higher carbon footprint. I consume more meat at home and use buses/trains more often.  I hope to get better at become more eco friendly this coming year and will retake this test to compare with my current results.

Above is a description of the average carbon emissions in Cheltenham. My result is below this but is due to the fact that I don't drive a car and rarely buy new large items for my flat and don't purchase electrical items during term time.

This is the average carbon emissions at my family home. I expected this to be a lot lower. I now realise that Cheltenham strives to eliminate its carbon footprint by 2030 and is implementing a programme of activities and initiatives to achieve this. Now knowing some of the lengths Cheltenham has gone to, to better the environment, I want to take this mentality with me when I visit home.
