PHOTOSHOP TASK 1
Pixelation - Crystallise
By Sophie Wiseman
I created this picture using a photograph of the outside of my house after a light layer of snow had fallen down. Fortunately, the photo was taken in the morning so has the benefit of having a series of orange colours in the sky. I used the pixelation and crystallise settings, with a cell size of 63. I felt this size was small enough to resemble the fragmentation of the picture and didn't distort the picture too much, so each colour was maintained. Also, the cell size was large enough to resemble a glass painting that would traditionally be used for a Victorian door (links back to the purpose of the task being about photographing the area outside of your home). Furthermore, the individual cells add to the effect of the snow and begins to resemble the fractal shapes that a snowflake creates.
Although it isn't a very interesting composition, the linearity of the houses lined up leads the eye towards the tree, which uses the rule of thirds. I think this process takes the original narrative away from the photograph but adapt sit to a new style of art that allows for new interpretations for the story behind it.
